Big Building

Big Building is the collaboration of songwriter/guitarist/vocalist Quinn Murphy (of Indie Rock favs Young Bugs, Quinn Murphy Experience, New York Gremmies, Riverboat Gamblers, Ridgewood Queens), bassist Dan Stein (best known for his work on the NY Jazz scene: Possibilities Trio, David Linard, Julia Chen, Alphonso Horne), and drum powerhouse Ricc Sheridan (Earl Greyhound, Hundred Watt Heart).

Quinn and Dan, longtime collaborators and friends, met when they were in college playing in bands that toured to each other's campuses.  While they both admired the carefree, effortlessly cool indie bands that were popular on campuses in the early 2010s, they bonded over their love of unapologetic rock and roll.  They both fell in love with one of the only bands doing that at the time: Earl Greyhound.  After seeing Earl Greyhound together several times, they agreed that Ricc Sheridan, Earl Greyhound's drummer, was the most dynamic and powerful drummer they had seen.

As their musical careers brought them in different directions (Quinn as an accomplished songwriter and performer in several rock bands, and Dan as a Juilliard-trained jazz musician), they continued to collaborate occasionally and always talked about starting a project together.  When the pandemic shut the world down, they began to work together remotely, and as things started to open back up it hit them like a ton of bricks--they had to start a project with Ricc Sheridan.

Quinn sent some demos to Ricc who responded enthusiastically, and within months they recorded their first full length album straight to tape at GB's Juke Joint in Long Island City.  Between Quinn's well-crafted and dynamic songs, Dan's rock solid bass playing and multi genre influence, and Ricc's bombastic huge-pocket drumming, Big Building's sound quickly became a force to be reckoned with--unapologetic rock with a fat groove and a pop-sensibility.

On the second day of recording, things were going so well that Ricc called up his long time friend and collaborator "Captain" Kirk Douglas of The Roots to stop by the studio (Ricc plays drums in Kirk's band "Hundred Watt Heart," along with Roots bassist Mark Kelly).  Kirk quickly re-routed to the studio on his way home from taping the Tonight Show, and added his magic touch to four Big Building Tracks.  Kirks' blistering guitar solo on "Take You Out" is a masterclass in making a profound musical statement in only 8 bars.

The video for "Take You Out", a one-take shot of the band performing the song in a sun-drenched Brooklyn living room, was shot by Jonathan Cortizo and beautifully captures the energy, charisma, and chemistry the band have together.

"Take You Out" Arrives 7/31
